THE NEW ABB GOFA CRB 15000 6-AXIS COLLABORATIVE ROBOT

Collaborative robots (cobots) were first designed to perform highly repetitive, low-weight work that allows them to operate safely alongside human workers without the need to design and build bulky fences or barriers, providing maximum flexibility and efficiency; in the assistance of machines, assembly and minor packaging processes. In recent years, its capabilities have grown. Cobots can now perform a greater variety of jobs thanks to these additional capabilities, without compromising productivity or safety.
One of these latest cobots presented is the new 6-axis GoFa CRB 15000 from ABB. Ideal for pick and place applications, kitting and product handling.
It is made to meet the growing need for cobots that can carry larger payloads. The GoFa CRB 15000, GoFa outperforms several other robots in its class, with a payload of 5kg, a reach of 950mm and a top speed of 2.2m/s.
Each of GoFa’s six joints has an integrated joint design with torque and positioning sensors to improve power and force limitation and human touch.
According to ABB, they “reduce the danger of harm to human employees by recognizing any unexpected contact between the cobot arm and a human and stopping the robot arm within milliseconds.”
An important feature is its tool center point (TCP) speed which is up to 2.2 meters per second (precise secure collaboration speed will vary based on individual application, tools, payload, etc.). One recommendation, users can use the SafeMove Configurator app.
It is vital that users perform a risk assessment of their application on a regular basis.
GoFa is programmed using ABB’s new Wizard programming software, which uses “basic graphic blocks” to simplify the programming process for non-robot professionals. To simplify the programming process, the blocks indicate activities such as “go to position”, “pick up an object” and “repeat operation”.
Every ABB cobot installation comes with a start-up package that includes diagnostics and condition monitoring from ABB Ability, as well as a free six-month support hotline for contacting experienced ABB technical help.
