ABB INTRODUCES ITS MOST EFFICIENT AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PAINT TECHNOLOGY

ABB Robotics has recently introduced the RB 1000i-S, an innovative paint atomizer designed to improve the efficiency and sustainability of automotive paint shops. This new device, mounted on top of ABB robots, increases paint transfer efficiency by 10% and reduces paint waste by 30% compared to its predecessor, the RB 1000i.

Need for Efficiency and Sustainability
The automotive industry is committed to carbon neutrality by 2035, and companies are exploring all options to achieve these goals. Marc Segura, president of ABB’s robotics division, highlighted that “ABB is continuously developing products and services to help companies achieve their sustainability goals.” The RB 1000i-S is an example of how ABB is expanding its portfolio to meet future challenges.

Benefits of the RB 1000i-S
The RB 1000i-S not only reduces paint waste and CO2 emissions but also optimizes energy consumption in plants. For example, if a manufacturer uses 2.5 liters of solvent per car and produces 200,000 cars per plant annually, the RB 1000i-S can save 50,000 liters of paint per plant, translating to a direct financial saving of 500,000 USD.

Implementation and Upgrade
Customers can order the new RB 1000i-S along with a new paint robot, or they can purchase a service kit to upgrade their existing RB 1000i by replacing key components such as the bell cap and shaping air nozzle. This service kit supports the circular economy and maximizes the lifespan of the existing paint atomizer, increasing product durability and further reducing waste.

Contribution to Sustainability
The RB 1000i-S is part of ABB’s strategy to help customers achieve a more sustainable and resource-efficient future. In addition to the paint atomizer, ABB offers the Energy Efficiency Service, which provides manufacturers with a package of consulting, analysis, and tools to increase the energy efficiency of their robots, offering energy savings of up to 30%. ABB’s OmniCore controller also consumes up to 20% less energy in intensive load cycles thanks to its energy regeneration technology.

The launch of the RB 1000i-S by ABB represents a significant advancement in the pursuit of efficiency and sustainability in automotive paint shops. By providing customized tools and analysis, ABB helps companies optimize the performance of their robots, reduce costs, and improve their competitiveness in an increasingly environmentally conscious market.
