ABB ROBOTICS INNOVATIONS IN MECHANIC WORKSHOPS

The demand for smarter and more flexible robotic automation for ABB FlexLoaders machining applications is growing as more efficient and advanced machine tools enter the market. The requirement to adequately meet specific customer preferences is a critical issue facing machine shops and builders in various industries, especially as the shift from mass manufacturing to mass customization continues.
ABB designed a wide range of robotic technologies to meet the challenges of what has become the “new normal”. In manufacturing: low-volume, high-mix production in shorter cycle times.
FlexLoadersTM, the latest generation of compact and standardized machine tool care cells from ABB, contain a 6-axis robot that is perfectly matched to the reach and payload needs of the application. Easy-to-use visual guidance enables automated machine care of components ranging from small to extremely large, increasing machine tool utilization by up to 60% and reducing operating costs. FlexLoaders are ideal for servicing vertical lathes, horizontal and vertical machining centers, 5-axis machines, and grinders in low- and high-volume manufacturing.
ABB’s intelligent design approach to its robotics portfolio enables ABB robots to easily fit a broader range of needs, giving customers greater flexibility for factory-specific automation challenges and applications.
ABB’s first offerings under this innovative approach included a single-arm YuMi® robot and OmniCore™, an entirely new family of robot controllers. ABB Ability™ and Connected Services are integrated into the new controller, as well as ABB‘s SafeMove2 safety software solution. Both offer a high degree of flexibility to add collaborative applications to existing lines with limited space, from compact footprints and multiple mounting possibilities to full integration as part of the digital factory.
RobotStudio® virtual commissioning and simulation software enables teams to design automation systems with a 3D perspective. ABB will also preview a new Condition Monitoring and Diagnostics (CMD) application for its ABB Ability™ Connected Services. The CMD uses an advanced algorithm based on machine learning to detect behavioral anomalies in large populations of robots.
ABB will demonstrate how to maximize the use of the machine tool and take full advantage of the potential of the flexible, connected and collaborative factory. Machine shops can use ABB robots to help them handle the problems of low-volume, high-mix production.
