The interaction of humans and robots is a developing practice that has engaged a lot of criticism and debate over the last 2-3 years. That has been the trend majorly due to the utilization of high-tech robots and its manifestation with people.
Moreover, these machines are gradually being perked up for their use across various sectors including restoration, elderly care, and even robot-led surgeries.
With that being said, the Human-Robot Interaction is not a natural science. And the struggle is to improve the interactions between human(s) and robot(s). The human-robot interaction adds logic and mindfulness to the robot’s actions. This is just what Dragan et al. tried to prove in his paper. He established that over and above mechanical movements, the involvement of a human onlooker and his/her deductions can make robotic activities more sensible. When humans and robots team up, two deductions can be made: motion leading to objectives and objectives leading to motion. This further accelerates two traits of motion which are described below:
Clearness is all about putting across the intention or aim. The robots movement should be made in such a manner that it reflects upon the objective. And the human observer instantly gets an idea of the goal. Hence, one can easily infer the objective of the robot through its actions/movements. This is motion leading to objective.
Obviousness is the element where the expectations of the human observer meet the movements of the robot which it carries out to fulfill the goal. When the observer predicts the objective of the robot, he/she is able to learn about its actions. This is objective leading to motion.
These two traits can easily be interrelated. For instance, when caught in a vague situation, where the robot’s actions go with the anticipated goal (i.e. obviousness), then this goal can be used to make the movement clear. In case it’s the only goal that comprehends the actions, the human onlooker can instantly conclude the robot’s goal. This also explains that the robot’s action is quite clear (i.e clearness). Therefore, it can be believed that obviousness involves clearness.
The human-robot interaction can change the face of industries and revolutionize it in more than one way.
