ABB GROUP INCLUDES NEW EASY-TO-PROGRAM COLLABORATIVE MODEL THE IRB 1010

The smallest industrial robot ever made by ABB has been unveiled, opening up new opportunities for the creation of faster, more adaptable and higher quality smart wearable devices. Thanks to its small size, extraordinary payload and unmatched precision, the new IRB 1010 offers electronics manufacturers the ability to automate the manufacture of products such as smartwatches, headsets, sensors and digital health monitoring technology.
Between 2022 and 2028, ABB Robotics‘ electronics business line is expected to grow by double digits. Companies are looking for affordable robotics solutions to cope with this expansion. ABB’s IRB 1010 robot is the most accurate robot in its class for payloads of 1.5 kilograms. Our IRB 1010 meets these requirements as the most accurate robot in its class for 1.5 kg payloads, enabling companies to increase production and efficiency while maintaining the highest levels of product quality.
The IRB 1010 is made to fit into the small areas and specialised equipment seen in electronics manufacturing situations. The IRB 1010 is 30% smaller than ABB’s current smallest robot, the IRB 120, with a reach of 370 mm and a footprint of 13 5 mm × 250 mm. Due to their small size, these cells can be more easily adapted to production areas, allowing producers to build factories with higher densities and improve production.
The IRB 1010 has the highest payload in its class, capable of lifting up to 1.5 kg, and can lift up to three times more weight than comparable robots. Combined with a larger air hose diameter that increases the vacuum suction force, this higher payload capacity enables the simultaneous processing of multiple objects, increasing the number of objects that can be processed each hour. New applications such as foil stripping, material handling, assembly, gluing and inspection are also possible.
The six brake mechanisms, which allow the robot arm to remain in position even when stationary, further increase productivity. Production can resume more quickly, as the time required for the robot to regain its position after a stop or pause is eliminated, allowing the IRB 1010 to achieve more in less time.

ABB‘s OmniCore E10 controller, which has class-leading position and path repeatability of 0.01 mm, is essential to the exceptional accuracy of the IRB 1010. The controller’s built-in digital connectivity and more than 1,000 additional functions make it easy to scale up or down to meet changing needs. The OmniCore E10 enables companies to reduce their energy costs and increase energy efficiency by using up to 20% less energy than ABB’s previous IRC5C controllers.
Programming is simplified with Robot Control Mate.
ABB’s Robot Control Mate makes programming the IRB 1010 easy. An add-on to ABB’s RobotStudio programming software, it allows users to calibrate, instruct and move the IRB 1010 from a computer or mobile tablet without programming knowledge.
In addition to creating new opportunities for educational applications, this simple programming and the compact size of the IRB 1010 also make it possible. Due to its small size, the IRB 1010 can be installed on classroom desktops and, thanks to its simple interface, both teachers and students can quickly acquire the necessary programming and operating skills.
With the launch of the IRB 1010, ABB can now offer a full range of small, medium and large collaborative robot alternatives that can be safely installed alongside operators.
