To help companies address the welder shortage, ABB has introduced OmniVance FlexArc Compact, a new, more compact welding system with greater flexibility, simplicity and better integration.
This revolutionary system helps fabricators maximise space because it occupies the smallest footprint in its class. It also allows flexibility because it can accommodate up to four additional robots without affecting the overall system design.
In an optimised cell tailored to the welding application, this new plug-and-play modular system integrates peripherals, software, robots, controls and other essential components.
According to the manufacturer, OmniVance FlexArc Compact is the smallest arc welding solution in its class at 14.3 m2. By placing the robot in the middle of a three-axis turntable and bringing it close to the workpiece, the robot’s operating parameters are maximised thanks to its distinctive 45-degree gantry mount design.
RobotStudio, an ABB programming and simulation tool, allows each OmniVance FlexArc system to be simulated prior to commissioning, minimising disruption and integrating time and effort. In addition, customers can collect and analyse data using the company’s latest FlexArc software package to improve decision making, welding efficiency and performance by viewing production data in relation to particular KPIs.
The capability of the new system can be easily enhanced by integrating AMR, material handling and quality inspection tools, which can also automate and accelerate industrial logistics. OmniVance FlexArc Compact can be easily expanded if production increases. The time and potential hazards associated with increased production can be minimised by easily duplicating both the hardware and software programs used, either in a single location or across numerous sites.
ABB’s new OmniVance brand, which combines all of the company’s standardised application platforms, also includes OmniVance FlexArc Compact as one of its newest products. OmniVance systems require little integration work and have a lower risk of errors, as they combine the robot, gripper, controller, software and other elements into a single application-specific solution. Fast changeovers, simple extension and efficient support are made possible by OmniVance’s standardised design and ABB’s global presence.
According to Marc Segura, president of ABB’s Robotics Division, “Welding is one of the most rapidly expanding automation applications. This growth is being fuelled by a labour shortage. Production is becoming more complex as a result of rising prices and increasing customer demand, so producers require simple automation solutions that are flexible enough to meet changing market demands. Our remedy is OmniVance FlexArc. Even more compact, adaptable and easy-to-use enhancements are in the pipeline.
